Sorrento peninsula
The Sorrento peninsula is an Italian peninsula stretching out into the Tyrrhenian Sea and one of the main tourist destinations of Campania.
On the side that overlooks the Gulf of Naples is the Sorrento coast, while in the side that overlooks the Gulf of Salerno forms the Amalfi coast.

Geography
Physical geography
It is located between the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno, the Sorrento coast is part of the metropolitan city of Naples while the Amalfi coast is part of the province of Salerno. It is rich in areas famous for their historical and natural beauties. All the places of the peninsula have an ancient and consolidated tourist vocation and are known all over the world.
The territory is completely crossed by the mountain chain of Monti Lattari, which degrading towards the sea ends with the town of Punta Campanella. In front of Punta Campanella, a few nautical miles away, there is the island of Capri that once was attached to the Sorrento peninsula and currently represents an ideal continuation.

The peninsula covers an area of 192.13 km² on which there are 21 municipalities in Campania, 9 in the province of Naples and 12 in the province of Salerno.

Gastronomy
Besides the scenic and naturalistic beauties, the Sorrento peninsula also presents various gastronomic specialties, such as the mozzarella of Agerola, the provolone del Monaco, the pizza by the meter, the pasta of Gragnano, as well as various specialties of the sea and lemon of Sorrento or Amalfi lemon as the first courses based on lemon, the famous limoncello, the limoncello babà and the lemon delight.
Infrastructures and transport
The municipalities of the Sorrento peninsula on the Neapolitan side are crossed by the State Road 145 Sorrentina while on the Salerno side the municipalities are connected by the National Road 163 Amalfitana.
The two states are the only two road arteries that allow connections between the municipalities of the area and between the two sides of the peninsula.
The area is also served by the Torre Annunziata-Sorrento railway, part of the circumvesuvian network managed by the Autonomous Volturno.
Prior to the construction of this railway, between 1906 and 1946 the Castellammare di Stabia-Sorrento tramway was present.
